I have been holding out on this post for a while, but excited to finally share.
2016 has been an incredible year for me so far. I have official launched my brand Sean Michael Lewis which has three areas of focus, Consulting, Social Media and Online Training. (coming later in 2016) Most of my clients are focused in the Disaster Restoration Industry and my strategy for growing my business is revolving around Podcasting, (officially launched LevelUp.Business on iTunes) Linkedin and Webinars.
The purpose of this post is to talk about how my Niche Experience has helped me elevate my career in the recent year. From a very young age I knew I wanted to be a business owner/entrepreneur. I wanted to influence and help people achieve their goals in their personal journey. However, from a young age I realized there was a lot I had to learn. I tried providing content to a mass market but didn’t have the credibility I needed to be succesful. I was an unknown content provider and speaker that could only regurgitate what I was learning from others and not really offering anything original.
I struggled with this for years and was unhappy in most jobs I took because I wanted to be an entrepreneur, but didn’t really have any value to offer others. I continued to learn and be inspired by influential leaders as my career progressed. Several years ago I took a job for a large disaster restoration company. What I did not realize, is this happened to be a multi-billion dollar industry and I noticed that there was very little innovation within the training and development for owners in this space. So I started teaching based on my experience (which included sales, social media, etc) and all the things I learned in life over the years. I quickly discovered I could be really good in this niche industry and develop systems and thought processes that were original.
Over the years I got to train owners all over the country and eventually lead a multimillion dollar sales force within the industry. After that I finally had the opportunity to become an Entrepreneur that specifically helped Disaster Restoration Owners grow their business’s. However, it was because of my experience and success during those years in the industry that allowed me to do this.
Experience in a niche industry is incredibly valuable. By no means am I saying you have to be older or wait till you are a certain age. Look at someone like Gary Vaynerchuk, who is a well know Social Media Speaker for the mass market. He started in his own niche area of promoting wine for his family liquor store business. Over time his credibility carried over to where he now runs one of the largest social media agencies in the world.
Why am I writing this post? I want to encourage you.
Are you in a job you hate now because you have dreams of doing something bigger?
Are you doing everything where you are to be a dominant player that you can consider building your dream business around that industry?
Just because you start in that industry doesn’t mean you only will stay there for years. I am already getting interest in several other industries for my services and look forward to continuing to build my business.
Find your Niche Experience and dominate it with everything you have. I promise you, it will pay off for the long run!
